A day in the life of a Salesforce developer
Bram De Ridder
Salesforce has become a major key player in the Cloud system. Being a Salesforce developer means you’re able to put your technical skills into practice. You can develop and translate your skills into real business solutions. I believe a developer needs to be cross-functional with technical aspects and communication skills.
What’s the best part of the job? And how becoming a SFDC developer changed my life for good…
I started in March 2016 as a Junior Salesforce developer with 4C. The first day at 4C I immediately felt at home, because at 4C it’s all about family. From that moment every day was a new day with new opportunities. Each day you’re being challenged with something new. These challenges are real life challenges for our clients, so every solution actually helps our clients to become better at what they do and supports their transformation into a customer company. This is the core of what we do at 4C, we build customer companies.
My journey started with little projects with the guidance of our more senior developers and consultants, but after a few weeks I got my very own first project. Here I got the chance to learn a lot about Visualforce/ Apex development techniques and a chance to help this client with their business processes.
Tools I use daily to help my development
There are a lot of tools available to make a Salesforce developer’s life easier. At the beginning I started with Trailhead to learn more about Salesforce. It’s a fun and engaging way to learn how to develop within Salesforce.
What I also use, is Sublime Text to build and manage code. I also go to online resources such as Salesforce Community or Stack Overflow. For questions and answers I can always depend on every colleague that works at 4C. Everyone is approachable, ready and willing to help.
A day in the life of a 4C Developer
It’s difficult to give you an idea what my days look like, because at 4C we work in flexible hours so each day can be different. This is an advantage because it gives you freedom and gives you a trustworthy feeling. But I’ve tried to create a time schedule of a typical day at the 4C office, but I should inform you, it’s never the same! Every day is different, that’s what makes this job so interesting.
07:30 – Wake up
08:55 – Arrive at the office
Greeting every colleague who is already at the office and having a little chit-chat.
09:00 – Start the day fresh with some caffeine
After a cup of coffee, I usually start checking my mails and look at my to-do list. So I can plan out my day and the things that need to be done.
09:30 – Development / troubleshooting / Configuration / Meeting
This depends from day to day.
12:00 – Lunch break
Eating and talking with the colleagues like a real family. Sometimes to just clear your head for a moment and start again the afternoon planning.
12:30 - Development / troubleshooting / Configuration / Meeting
This depends from day to day.
17:30 – Going home
